COMMUNITY COMMITMENT
Helping Troubled Youth
Mr. Stiles and his wife, Cynthia, have been strong supporters and active volunteers in organizations devoted to assisting victims of crime and family dysfunction. Most recently, they have been active friends of CASA, an acronym for Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children. CASA recruits and trains volunteers to act as advocates for children who have become the subject of Court Dependency proceedings. They act as the "eyes and ears" of the Judges deciding the cases by spending time with the children involved, and reporting on the family circumstances which would otherwise be unknown to the Court. The Stiles' have hosted and sponsored numerous fund raising efforts, and Cynthia has served as a Board Member and Board President of the organization. They are currently planning a CASA "Celebration from the Heart" for May, 2003, which will serve as one of a number of CASA "celebrations"-one of the organization's fundraising mainstays.
They have also been active in the Victim/Witness Auxiliary, an organization sponsored by the Kern County Probation Department to provide benefits and assistance to victims of violent crime. David Stiles has been twice recognized by the Auxiliary for his volunteer and fundraising efforts.
As an adjunct to these efforts, David Stiles has served as a resource in assisting the Kern County Bar Association's efforts to screen dependent children for matters requiring further legal representation. He has also provided volunteer services to the Long Term Care Ombudsman's program, assisting in providing representation to residents of Skilled Nursing and Residential Care for the Elderly. He has been active in the California Association for Nursing Home Reform, and serves as a referral panel member for them.
David Stiles has been a regular contributor of time to instruct volunteer coaches in legal issues related to coaching and sport activities, and has spoken at the Kern Co. Supt. Of Schools "coaches clinic" for over ten years as each sport season opens. The clinic, sponsored by Glinn and Giordano Physical Therapy, is the primary orientation for walk-on and parent coaches.
The Stiles' have also been regular contributors and occasional volunteers for numerous other worthy organizations locally which they believe are contributing to the community.
